  • For broadcast radio, research the stations in your area.
  • Most stations require a fee for air-time, determine that fee up front.
  • Meet with the program director and sales director.
  • Determine how much time you have for commercials that you can sell or use for your own promotion.
  • Be familiar with the clock of the station so that you know exactly the times and number of minutes for the interview, commercials and breaks.
  • Prepare your introduction and close and content for your show.    
  • Determine how much promotion the station will provide for you when you are not on the air.

Get Sponsors:

  • Unless you are being sponsored before your show begins, allow 3 months of air time to obtain sponsors.
  • Show potential sponsors show ratings and show interest by listeners.
  • Show sponsors how your program will help them promote their product or service.
  • Always keep your sponsors in mind for interviews, commercials and other ways to participate in your show.
  • Always be on the lookout for new sponsors whose message fits the concept of your radio show.
  • Reach out to local companies, both profit and non-profit.
  • Send proposals to potential sponsors which outline features, benefits, ratings and demographics.
